South Hamilton, Roland-Story track teams compete at Ballard Co-Ed Meet

The South Hamilton Hawks track teams and Roland-Story Norsemen girls track team returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip to southern Story County to compete in the annual Ballard Co-Ed Relays at Rich Strouse Field in Huxley. The Hawks and Norsemen were joined by the host Bombers, as well as Central Springs, Collins-Maxwell, Dowling Catholic, Iowa Falls-Alden, Perry, South Tama County, Waverly-Shell Rock and West Marshall.

South Hamilton’s boys would place 2nd in the meet with 113 points, as junior Kolby Hodnefield put together the most impressive night of his career thus far. Hodnefield won the 100m dash in a time of 10.95 seconds, before minutes later winning the 400m dash in a time of 48.81 seconds, a time that now sits #2 in Iowa this season. Hodnefield would win the 200m dash in a new school-record time of 21.90, before anchoring the 4×400 team to a victory in a time of 3:34.50 with the help of Wyatt Gelder-Braden Young and Tanner Twedt. Braden Young would win the long jump with a mark of 21′ 4″, while the sprint medley won in a time of 1:40.75 with the team of Babcock-Gelder-Severseike-Twedt. Young also placed 2nd in the 100m dash in a time of 11.59, while Tanner Twedt placed 2nd in the 400m dash in a time of 52.85 and also finishing 3rd in the 200m dash in a time of 23.20. Titus Herrick would place 3rd in the discus with a throw of 119′ 7″.

South Hamilton’s girls would place 4th with 88 points, as they came away with a pair of winners. Cici Herrick would win the 400m dash in a time of 1:04.92, while the 4×200 won in a time of 1:54.55 with the team of Flaugh-Van De Pol-Chamness-Doolittle. Bianca Seaton would place 2nd in the 800m run in a time of 2:37.16, as Claire Hewitt placed 2nd in the long jump with a mark of 14′ 11.5″. Tessa Skartvedt placed 2nd in the shot put with a throw of 36′ 5.5″, as the sprint medley placed 2nd in a time of 2:00.10 with the quartet of Flaugh-Doolittle-Van De Pol-Herrick.

Roland-Story’s girls would place 3rd in the meet with 101 points, picking up a handful of wins. Adalyn Sporleder won the long jump with a mark of 17′ 0.5″, as the sprint medley won in a time of 1:54.39 with the team of Sporleder-Jondle-Petersen-Kam Lande. The Norsemen then won the distance medley in a time of 4:35.11 with the quartet of Reitano-Willis-Johnson-Karsyn Lande, before winning the 4×100 in a time of 50.28 with the team of Sporleder-Petersen-Jondle-Kam Lande. Roland-Story finished the meet with a win the 4×400 in a time of 4:21.98 with the team of Lucas-Johnson-M. Petersen-Karsyn Lande.

South Hamilton boys track returns to action on Thursday, when they host the South Hamilton Hawk Relays at Bill Taylor Field at 4:30 PM. South Hamilton and Roland-Story girls track returns to action on Thursday, when Roland-Story hosts the Norsemen Relays at Dallas Kray Track at 4:30 PM.
