Hamilton County sees a slight increase in its March unemployment numbers.

The Iowa Workforce Development office reported Tuesday morning that Hamilton County’s unemployment numbers for March showed a slight increase from the month before. The rate was 3.1 percent up from the February rate of 3.0 percent. In March,2024, the rate for Hamilton County was 2.1 percent. There were 7,650 Hamilton County residents who were employed during March with 250 people who were without work. Hamilton County shared a similar 3.1 percent unemployment rate with the same rate as in both Boone and Wright Counties. The unemployment  rate for surrounding counties in March included Franklin County at 3.8 percent, Hardin County at 3.5 percent, Story County at 2.8 percent and Webster County at 3.8 percent.

Iowa’s statewide unemployment rate for March was 3.4 percent. There were 1,664,300 Iowans at work last month. Over 58,600 Iowans were unemployed in March in the latest jobs report released.
