Stratford City Council discussed street work in the community at their Monday meeting.

At a meeting this week, the Stratford City Council met with its city manager Kim Leeds on resurfacing and milling work on Teneyck Avenue/Stagecoach Road. Leeds explained that the project is a 16.8 mile resurfacing  project from Highway 20 south to Chase Avenue. Fort Dodge Asphalt is the contractor for this project. Crews will be starting at the north end and working their way south. This June the work crews from Fort Dodge Asphalt will begin in Stratford. They will also be slip lining culverts and working on ADA compliant sidewalks in the areas that already had sidewalks.

The Stratford City Council approved the quote for $17,600 from Fort Dodge Asphalt for curb and gutter at the corners of Milton Street and Teneyck Avenue and Tennyson Avenue and Teneyck Avenue for ADA Sidewalk Compliance. Curb and gutter would be 100 percent responsibility of the city and will be added to a 28E agreement with Hamilton County to pay back in 5 years interest free.

There was a discussion by the Stratford City Council concerning the fence around the lagoon ground. Rick Adams was present to explain that the fence needs repairs. The city maintenance repaired 250 feet of damaged fence. Adams is requesting that the city of Stratford replace existing fence to match his property fence which is 4 feet woven wire fence with barbwire on top to reduce geese from invading his crops. Adams also requested the DNR tag the geese to reduce flight.  Council members decided to table the request from Rick Adams to repair and replace the fence around the lagoon ground to contact the DNR.

In other matters, the Stratford City Council approved the Tree Removal Plan and quote from K T and T Landscaping to remove two trees for $3400. The council went on to approve the invoice from K T and T Landscaping fo $5,300 for emergency work. The council is requesting the homeowner portion be charged to the homeowner. The next city council meeting on May 11th will be the date set for the Fiscal Year 2025 budget amendment hearing.  The quote to replace a hallway and bathroom floors at the Stratford Outdoor Pool using LOSST funds was approved by the council. The nuisance abatement procedure was tabled until after Stratford’s City Wide Clean-up Day. Council members declined selling the vacated alley east of the 900 block of Teneyck Avenue south of Lot 2. The council suggested the city maintenance maintain the alley. The June meeting date of the Stratford City Council was changed to June 16th at 7:00 p.m. in the city hall instead of June 9th.
