
This week the Jewell City Council discussed road repairs in the city with many to be addressed. There is an ongoing list that the city will begin working on. The protection for hydrants will be reevaluated by the council in a few weeks by city maintenance workers. Jewell mayor Mickey Walker updated the council for a few items for the public works department. Signs and painting for the Main Street project have been started. There are a few signs that need to be bored into the concrete and will be placed shortly. Walked informed the council that the city is still waiting for a lighting upgrade. Jewell Public Works director Terry Anderson has begun preparing for the possibility of having the water tower worked on this summer.
The Jewell City Council approved a resolution to establish a social media Policy. There will be more discussion at a future council meeting.
The council reviewed the budget amendment for the 2024-25 fiscal year which included additional expenditures of fire insurance, sheriff, recycling, ball field dirt, repair to the Van Diest Clinic, storm sewer, repairs to East Lane, engineering and additional revenues from park grants, youth sports, pool concessions, deposits and sever revenue. Council member Loyal Winborn announced to the city council that he would be moving in June. The city of Jewell thanked Winborn for his years of service to Jewell. A search will begin to find his replacement.
