
The South Hamilton Hawks boys and girls track teams returned to action on Tuesday, as they made the long drive into Madison County to compete in the Earlham Co-Ed Invitational at Earlham High School. The Hawks were joined by the host Cardinals, as well as AC/GC, Clarinda, Coon Rapids-Bayard, Des Moines Christian, Grand View Christian, Lenox, Nodaway Valley, Panorama, Van Meter and West Central Valley.
South Hamilton’s boys placed 5th with 59 points with a handful of wins, first coming in the sprint medley in a time of 1:34.92 with the team of Young-Twedt-Severseike-Hodnefield. The Hawks then won 4×200 in a time of 1:30.71 with the team of Young-Twedt-Severseike-Hodnefield, followed by a win in the 4×100 in a time of 43.43 with the quartet of Young-Twedt-Severseike-Hodnefield. The final win of the night was in the 4×400, coming in a time of 3:27.99 with the team of Severseike-Young-Twedt-Hodnefield. Other placers saw freshman Wyatt Gelder place 5th in the 200m dash in a time of 24.27, while also placing 5th in the 400m dash in a time of 55.02. The Hawks 4×800 also placed 5th in a time of 9:29.37 with the team of Wirth-Zanker-Garcia-Gibbs.
The Hawk girls placed 6th, also scoring 59 points with their top placer in freshman Stella Martensen in the high jump, clearing 5′ even. Tessa Skarvedt would place 4th in the shot put with a throw of 31′ 7.5″, while the sprint medley placed 4th in a time of 2:02.99 with the team of Flaugh-Doolittle-Van De Pol-Herrick. South Hamilton’s 4×400 would place 4th in a time of 4:28.89 with the team of Beaune-Herrick-Chamness-Doolittle.
South Hamilton boys and girls track returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Manson to compete in the Mason-Northwest Webster Co-Ed at 4:30 PM.
