
A wide range of topics were covered at Monday evening’s meeting at the South Hamilton Community School Board at Jewell. The board approved the renewal of an AEA purchasing agreement for vendors to secure compliant, cost effective food and supply bids for participating districts, which agree to purchase 60 percent of their items with some exclusions from AEA selected vendors. A cooperating agreement with Morningside University for teacher education candidates for practicum, field experience, student teaching or internship.
Sunday, May 18th at 2:00 was the date and time set for South Hamilton High School commencement at the school gym. The board Monday night approved the list of graduates pending the completion of all graduation requirements. South Hamilton Athletic Director Dan Brodie informed the board of an informal discussion about the Woodward Granger district exploring membership in the Heart of Iowa Athletic Conference with further talks to continue. The spring sports season for the South Hamilton teams is well underway. The athletic department and South High Pride are partnering with Ogden Turf and Grading to repair and improve the High School baseball and softball fields, and addressing grading and drainage.
The South Hamilton board approve the purchase of the track and field video scoreboard from Daktronics for $263, 709 to be installed this summer. A request for the Costa Rica trip by the South Hamilton Spanish class was approved for the summer of 2026 with EF Tours. The requested dates will be June 23rd through July 2nd of next year.A quote from RDI to replace the sound system in the high school gym for $86,470.72 was approved by the school board. The South Hamilton school board approved the sharing of the soccer program with Ames Community School District beginning next season.An athletic trainer renewal agreement with McFarland Clinc was accepted.
In personnel matters, the board approved the resignations of Nikole Riherd as an ELL teacher and from Special Education teacher Staci Winborn. The hiring of Patty Willadsen as Home School Assistance Program Coordinator and Yadira Hernandez Rodriguez as an ELL teacher for the 2026-27 school year.The South Hamilton School Board reviewed and provided feedback on the facilities plan for the 2026-27 school year. The agreement with Owner Architect with Emergent Architecture to review facilities and provide options for any future projects was approved by the board. The sealed bids for the purchase of two buses with a minimum bid of $500 were approved for the disposition of obsolete equipment. If the buses are not purchased that can be disposed of at the salvage yard.
