
The South Hamilton Hawks boys and girls track teams returned to action on Thursday evening, as they hosted their home co-ed invitational at Bill Taylor Field in Jewell. The Hawks were joined by BCLUW, Collins-Maxwell, Colo-NESCO, Madrid and West Marshall.
South Hamilton’s boys placed 2nd with 138 points and came away with a number of victories. Nick Severseike opened the day by winning the boys long jump with a mark of 19′ 10.5″, as Hayden Hill would then win the 3200m run in a time of 10:54.91. Kolby Hodnefield was the next winner, dazzling the crowd by winning the 100m dash in a time of 10.77 seconds, breaking the South Hamilton school record set by Devin Howard in 2012 of 10.80 seconds and tying for the 4th-fastest 100 in Iowa. South Hamilton’s boys final win would come in the 4×200 in a time of 1:33.37 with the team of Severseike-Young-Twedt-Hodnefield. Braden Young would place 2nd in the long jump with a mark of 19′ 9.25″, as the 4×800 placed 2nd in a time of 9:47.34 with the team of Zanker-Ferrie-Wirth-Gibbs. Wyatt Gelder would tie for 2nd in the 100m dash in a time of 11.11 seconds, before he finished 2nd in the 400m dash in a time of 56.99. Kolby Hodnefield would place 2nd in the 800m run in a time of 2:04.68, before the 4×100 placed 2nd in a time of 45.69 with the team of Severseike-Young-Twedt-Hodnefield.
The Hawk girls would place 3rd in their meet with 139 points and posted a number of winners as well. Their first win came in sprint medley, followed up by a win in the 400m dash by Cici Herrick in a time of 1:05.89. South Hamilton then won the 4×200 in a time of 1:57.56 with the team of Flaugh-Van De Pol-Scheller-Doolittle, before winning the 4×100 in a time of 55.89 with the team of Flaugh-Van De Pol-E. Ammerman-Doolittle. The Hawks capped the meet by winning the 4×400 in a time of 4:31.32 with the team of Beaune-Herrick-Chamness-Doolittle. South Hamilton would pick up 2nd place finishes in the field events as Isabel Swenson was 2nd in the high jump, clearing 4′ 8″, while Claire Hewitt was 2nd in the long jump with a mark of 14′ 2.5″. The Hawks 4×800 placed 2nd in a time of 11:19.29 with the team of Beaune-Seaton-Herrick-Bare, while the shuttle hurdle also placed 2nd in a time of 1:21.60 with the team of Swenson-Moline-Neuberger-Hesse. Sara Scheller got the final 2nd place finish in the 400m hurdles in a time of 1:17.28.
South Hamilton track and field returns to action on Tuesday, when they compete at the Earlham Co-Ed Invitational at Earlham High School, beginning at 4:30 PM.
