Webster City girls soccer comes up short at Clear Lake, 1-0

The Webster City Lynx girls soccer team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip up I-35 to far northern Iowa to take on the Clear Lake Lions in North Central Conference action at Lions Field in Clear Lake. Webster City entered Thursday at 0-1, while Clear Lake entered at 1-1.

Thursday’s game would be a defensive chess match with neither side budging in the first half with a 0-0 tie. That scoreless tie would last well into the 2nd half until Clear Lake’s Avery Hegvedt connected on a free kick in the 71st minute to give Clear Lake a 1-0 lead as the Lions held on for a 1-0 win.

Juniors Heidi Mendoza and Ashlee Nydegger had the only shots of the day for Webster City, as junior goalkeeper Kate Feltz collected 6 saves on the day.

Webster City girls soccer returns to action on Thursday, when they host Hampton-Dumont-CAL in North Central Conference action at 5:30 PM.
