New trial date for man accused of burning his rural Stanhope home.

A new trial date has been set for the man accused of burning his rural Stanhope home in late January. Iowa Courts Online is reporting that the jury trial for 28-year-old Cody Christensen is set for Tuesday,May 13th at 9:00 a.m. in Hamilton County District Court.  Christensen is facing charges of Second Degree Arson and Interference with Official Acts. The trial was originally set to begin this Tuesday, April 8th but was moved to next month.  Christensen is accused in starting a fire that destroyed the residence at 2158 360th Street near Stanhope on January 30th. He filed a written plea of not guilty on February 24. Christensen was released from the Hamilton County Jail to CFR for the completion of inpatient treatment. Firefighters from Stanhope and Stratford responded  to the fire. The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office deputies and other law enforcement authorities apprehended Christensen following the fire.  A charge of Second Degree Arson is a Class C Felony that carries with it 10 years in prison and a fine. Interference with Official Acts is Class D Felony that can result in up to five years in prison and a fine.
