March proved to be a month of blizzards,thunderstorms and record tying warmth for Webster City.

Two blizzards….the sounds of thunder….sleet….and a record tying high temperature best describe Webster City’s weather for March. Records at the Radio Hill weather reporting station showed Webster City experienced a month of above normal temperatures and precipitation. The average high for March was 52 degrees and the average low was 26 degrees. Normal high for the month of March is 44 degrees. The warmest day for the month was last Friday afternoon’s high of 82 degrees on March 28th. The temperature tied the record of 82 degrees set 39 years ago on March 28,1986. There were four days in March that the temperature was at or above 70 degrees. The lowest temperature for the month was 14 degrees set the morning of March 2nd.

Precipitation for the month was the 11 inches of snow along with 3.26 inches of rain or melted precipitation measured on Radio Hill.

The highlight of the month were the two blizzards in Webster City on March 5th and March 19th. The storm caused power outages, hazardous travel conditions, cancellations for school and other activities.

The Climate Prediction Center says the month of April for Iowa is forecast to bring equal chances for temperatures and precipitation. In April,2024 Webster City’s average high was 61 degrees and and an average low of 35 degrees. There was 2.93 inches of rainfall for the month.
