
A public hearing for Jewell’s proposed property tax for the 2025-26 was held last Monday evening, March 24th. The city will levy $400,588 in consolidated general funds, $97,692 in liability,property and self-insurance, $33,848 for FICA and IPERS, $30,611 in other employee benefits, $86,905 for debt service and $7,547 in ag land. There were no questions of comments from residents during the hearing. A date for the approval of Jewell’s property tax for next fiscal year will be made at a future council session. The council set April 28th for two public hearings. The first one is for the budget adoption for the 2025-26 fiscal year. The second hearing is the budget amendment hearing for the 2024-25 fiscal year. Both hearings will be held in the Jewell City Hall during the council meeting.
The Jewell City Council set Friday,May 30th and Saturday,May 31st for the city-wide garage sale days with June 7th as the date for the city wide clean-up day from 8 until 11:00 a.m.
In another matter, the Jewell City Council reviewed the social media policy with a motion to have city attorney Justin Deppe to review the policy. There will be more discussion at a future council meeting.
Jewell Public Works Director Terry Anderson informed the council that GIS mapping options and prices. The Jewell City Council would like to confirm pricing and have Anderson present information at the next meeting. Anderson informed city council members that the Main Street signage and painting will begin next week in Jewell.
