The Hamilton County Conservation Board is preparing for the 2025 camping and golfing season. Conservation director Brian Lammers announced at their Tuesday morning meeting that the Briggs Woods Golf Course will open for the season on Friday, March 28 weather permitting. The camping season at Bells Mill, Briggs Woods and Little Wall Lake Parks will begin on Friday, April 4th. Conservation staff have been busy the past few weeks in preparing for the camping season by cleaning the campgrounds and cabins for the visitors for the new season.
Lammers said the board was recently approached by members of Pheasants Forever to look into the acquisition of property located north of Webster City. After discussion, the Conservation Board moved to write out a grant to the Iowa Department of Natural Resources for a Wildlife Habitat Stamp Grant for the proposed property acquisition. A decision will be made later this year by the Iowa DNR on the request. In addition to the Hamilton County Conservation Department and Pheasants Forever, the Iowa Natural Heritage Foundation is assisting in the undertaking.
There was an update by McCullough Design on the plans for the Learning Center Facility at Briggs Woods Park with no action taken on the project. There will be more discussion at a future conservation board meeting.
