
The South Hamilton Hawks, Roland-Story Norsemen and Eagle Grove Eagles boys track and field teams returned to action on Thursday night, as they competed in the IATC Indoor Championships at the Lied Rec Center on the campus of Iowa State. Roland-Story and Eagle Grove competed in the Class 2A meet, while South Hamilton competed in the Class 1A meet.
South Hamilton would start their season off on the right foot, finishing 3rd as a team in the 1A meet with 43 points. Junior Kolby Hodnefield would have a monster night for the Hawks, winning the 200m dash in a time of 22.80, while winning the 400m dash in a time of 49.85, a mark that currently sits #2 in Iowa. Hodnefield would place 2nd in the 60m dash in 7.17 seconds, while anchoring the 4×400 to a 4th place finish in a time of 3:34.44. For his efforts, Hodnefield was named the Outstanding Athlete in the Class 1A meet by the IATC.
Elsewhere for the Hawks, the Boys 4×100 would place 3rd in a time of 45.49 with the team of Severseike-Gelder-Twedt-Young, while Nick Severseike placed 5th in the 400m dash in a time of 52.57. Severseike also placed 13th in the 200m dash in a time of 24.11, while the distance medley placed 19th in a time of 4:01.76 with the team of Young-Twedt-Gelder-Hill.
Roland-Story would tie for 9th in the 2A meet with 24 points, as their top event would be the Shuttle Hurdle, where the Norsemen placed 2nd in 33.95 with the team of Long-Berggren-Barber-Strum. The Norsemen 4×800 would place 4th in a time of 8:56.47 with the team of Voga-Willis-Dahlsten-Lucchesi, while the 4×100 also placed 4th in a time of 44.69 with the team of Berggren-McIllrath-Mazyck-Knoll. Corbin Lucchesi would place 5th in the 3200 in a time of 10:27.12, while Jayden Strum finished 8th in the 60m hurdles in a time of 9.37. Tristen Crabbs placed 8th for Roland-Story in the 200m dash in a time of 23.41, while Cody Long placed 12th in the long jump with a mark of 19′ 6.5″.
Eagle Grove would send a handful of athletes to Thursday’s meet, as Josh Miller placed 8th in the high jump by clearing 5′ 11″, as Syrus Willard placed 18th by clearing 5′ 7″. Leelan Spencer would place 36th in the 60m dash in a time of 7.50 seconds.
South Hamilton track and field returns to action on April 3rd for their first outdoor meet at the Ballard Co-Ed in Huxley. Roland-Story track and field returns to action on April 4th as they host their first outdoor meet for the Roland-Story Co-Ed. Eagle Grove track and field returns to action on Monday for the Mason City Indoor.
