Two Florida men facing charges in Hamilton County for theft and impersonation of a public official.

Two Florida men are facing charges after an incident late last month in Hamilton County. Hamilton County Sheriff Alex Pruismann said the county dispatch center was notified on February 24th of a Hamilton County resident scammed out of $10,000 earlier in the day. The scam involved individuals posing as a lawyer and a judge convincing the victim that their neighbor had been arrested and needed bail money. The victim cooperated thinking their neighbor was in trouble. One of the scammers went to the victim’s home, where they were given the money.Later in the day the Kossuth County Sheriff’s Office received an identical report of a scam that had occurred. Kossuth County deputies were able to identify the vehicle used by the scammers and in turn issued an attempt to locate on that vehicle and an arrest warrant for the person the vehicle was rented to. The vehicle was found was later found on February 27th. The driver identified as Eddie Benitez Abreus was then arrested for First Degree Theft a class C felony. Abreus had three cell phones in his possession, one of which still had the address of the victim in Hamilton County saved in it’s map’s apps. Another individual, Carlos Yadier Garrido Guzman of Florida was determined to be involved and an arrest warrant for Theft and issued by Kossuth County. Both  Abreus and Garrido Guzman were charged with Impersonation of a Public Official and First-Degree Theft in this case.
