
The South Hamilton Community School Board this week heard from its superintendent Heather Holm on the preliminary budget and maximum proposed property tax rate of $13.65 per $1000 taxable valuation. The first public hearing on the proposed tax levy for the 2025-26 fiscal year was set for April 14th at 6:00 p .m. in the school board room in Jewell.The school board expressed intent to offer and administrator early retirement plan to be approved after July 1st,2025.
The date of Tuesday, April 1st will be the annual Kindergarten Round-up for students for the 2025-26 school year. The ISASP testing will take place between March 31st until April 4th for South Hamilton students. There will be tentative calendar changes for South Hamilton students. They include the makeup hours for the end of the school year to make up 7.5 hours of instruction, canceling the early dismissal on Friday,May 23rd and the late starts from April 9th through the end of the school year. The Drive Your Tractor to School Day protocols have been reviewed with the event scheduled to take place with safety protocols being emphasized
South Hamilton iJAG students recently competed in the State contest and placed in the top ten in all categories. Jagger Ferrie was recognized the Stars Over Iowa Award in FFA and congratulated the South Hamilton Jazz Band for earning a spot in the championships. Secondary Principal Todd Coy also noted working with teachers on any course changes for next year and with students on scheduling
In personnel matters, the South Hamilton school board approved a resignation effective March 18,2025 for Sean Armstrong. Resignations will take effect at the end of the current school year from Rebecca Huisman as HSAP Coordinator and from Dan Brodie as Athletic Director and Teacher. The board accepted the hirings of Kyle Galetich as assistant high school baseball coach for this upcoming season, Robyn Reisetter as 7th and 8th Math Teacher, and Joeigh Eaton as School Counselor for the 2025-26 school year.
The South Hamilton board appreciated the South High Pride and volunteers for hosting the Iowa High School Athletic Association District Wrestling Tournament held in February. The board acknowledged the memorial placed in the weight room in memory of Owen Renaud.
