August 25th will be the starting day for the Webster City school year for 2025-26 academic year.

The date of Monday, August 25th will be the starting date for the 2025-26 academic year for Webster City Community School students. The Webster City school board approved setting the date at their meeting back on Monday night. The board approved the Winter Break dates from December 22nd to January 5, 2026. Spring break for next year will run from March 6th to 13th,2026. The last day of classes in Webster City will be May 29th,2026. The calendar will feature professional development days. Students will not have to make up the first five snow days in 2025-26. Other highlights at this week’s school board session included a presentation by Dustin Opatz of Bergman KDV with an overview of the 2024 audit report.

Due to Supplemental State Aid (SSA) not being set, Webster City superintendent Matt Berninghaus recommended the tax rate be calculated using 2.25 percent SSA to allow maximum flexibility  during the budget hearing process. The tax rates recommended for 2025-26 will be a combined rate of 12.27, the former Webster City District tax rate of  12.79 and the former NEH District tax rate of 11.10

The Webster City School Board approved a cooperative agreement with the  University of Northern Iowa for student teachers, and interns from the Cedar Falls campus. An AEA purchasing agreement for food,small wares, and ware wash was approved.

There will be two public hearings at the April 14th Webster City School Board meeting for the Fiscal Year 2026 budget both to begin at 5:45 p.m. The following fund-raising requests were approved. The High School Agriculture Department for Lynx Service Shop to provide maintenance and repair of small engines and for the woodworking class to sell various woodworking projects. The Webster City High School Baseball team will get pledges and family and friends for a Hit-A-Thon. The Webster City High School Drama Club will hold a free will donation for Central Iowa Recover and the Middle School to visit local businesses to sponsor a pancake lunch and individual and classwide accomplishments to celebrate student learning and growth. There was a closed session of the Webster City School Board to discuss the purchase or sale of real estate.
