Stanhope City Council reviews wide range of issues at February meeting.

At its recent meeting, the Stanhope City Council voted to allow Trackside Welding of Jewell to repair the Stanhope water softener tank legs at the town’s water plant. The firm submitted their bid of $1971.84. Trackside Welding will begin its work in the coming weeks.

It was brought to the attention of the Stanhope council that motorists will need to slow down with the installation of speed limit signs on the west side of Stanhope where the gravel road meets the pavement. Many trucks have been utilizing this road and they don’t seem to slow down until they are well into the town of Stanhope. The Stanhope City Clerk will contact the Iowa DOT to see if the city can order a couple of signs to motorists as they arrive in Stanhope.

The MIDAS Council of Governments is still working on the ordinance book. Once the book is done it will be sent to the Stanhope City Council for approval. Once that is done the book will be codified. Stanhope will pay MIDAS $1500.00. Half is due upon approval and half is due upon completion.

There was a discussion on properties around Stanhope that need attention. Stanhope Mayor Kelly Wirtz will work with Stanhope City Attorney Zach Chizek on getting nuisance abatement letters in progress.

A presentation by Shelly Codner with Area 2 Iowa Waste was tabled until the March 11th Stanhope City Council. The Stanhope City Council set March 25th at 6:00 p.m. for the proposed property tax hearing at the Stanhope Community Building.
