The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the West Marshall Trojans in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School in Story City. The Roland-Story girls entered at 16-2 and ranked #7 in Class 3A, while the Roland-Story boys entered at 5-12.
Roland-Story’s girls looked to avenge their lone conference loss of the season to the Trojans, but got off to a slow start in their quest, trailing 13-7 after the first quarter. The 2nd quarter would see the tide turn as the Norsemen put up 22 points in the frame to take a 29-22 halftime lead. After an even 3rd quarter, the Norsemen defense held the Trojans to just 2 points in the 4th quarter to secure a 49-34 win.
Riley Johnson led the Norsemen with 13 points on Tuesday, while Claire Truesdell added 9 points and Emma Truesdell added 8 points.
The boys fame followed as Roland-Story looked to continue their improved play, as the Norsemen would be tied at 13-13 after the first quarter, but held a 22-20 halftime lead. West Marshall answered with a solid 3rd quarter to hold a 34-30 lead going into the 4th quarter, but stifling defense and timely buckets put the Norsemen over the hump for a 42-37 win.
Jake Berggren had 14 points to lead the Norsemen, while Eli Van Hove had 12 points and 6 rebounds.
Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Monroe to take on PCM in Heart of Iowa Conference action at 6 PM.
