The Iowa State Patrol investigated a chain-reaction type accident at the southbound 137 mile marker of Interstate 35 at 6:22 Tuesday morning north of Ellsworth. Reportedly a southbound 2013 Ford F150 pickup driven by Mark A. Casey of Madrid,Iowa struck the rear end trailer to a southbound 2024 International semi tractor-trailer operated by Kelly S. Frock of Humboldt. The Casey pickup became disabled on the left shoulder of the highway. The semi operated by Frock was able to pull over safely to the right hand shoulder of the highway. Meanwhile another vehicle, a southbound 2022 model Nissan Altima car operated by Darriel Simons of Hampton was in the left lane of I35 and did not see the Casey pickup. The Simons car struck the left rear of the Casey pickup. A short time later a southbound 2007 model Peterbuilt Conventional semi driven by Franz Johnson of Long Grove,Iowa did not see the Casey pickup striking the pickup’s front end.The impact caused the Casey pickup truck to go off the roadway near a cable barrier. Damage to the Johnson semi was estimated at $10,000. The damage to the Simons and Casey vehicles were both estimated at $8000. An estimated $200 in damage to the Frock semi. The accident was investigated by Iowa State Patrol trooper Dennis Schnathorst with assistance by the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department.
