The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip east to Marshall County to take on the West Marshall Trojans in Heart of Iowa Conference action at West Marshall High School in State Center. South Hamilton’s girls entered at 5-12, while South Hamilton’s boys entered at 0-18.
South Hamilton’s girls faced a tall task with the 15th-ranked Trojans, as West Marshall jumped out to a 17-6 lead after the first quarter. The Hawks would battle back in the 2nd quarter, trailing just 32-19 at halftime, but West Marshall would use a 24-point 3rd quarter to vault the Trojans to a 59-29 win.
The Hawks were led by 5 point outings from Lillie Ammerman, Izzy Swenson and Rosemary Chamness, while Bella Borgos led West Marshall with 23 points.
South Hamilton’s boys followed, looking for their first win against a quick turnaround and a depleted roster, as West Marshall jumped out to a 19-6 first quarter lead and kept their foot on the gas the rest of the way for a 76-29 win.
Jose Babcock and Jesus Garcia finished with 8 points each for the Hawks, while AJ Dee led West Marshall with 20 points.
South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host PCM in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School at 6 PM.
