Stanhope man facing charges after a house fire in rural Stanhope on Thursday afternoon.

The Hamilton County Sheriff’s Department on Thursday afternoon arrested and charged  28-year-old Cody Christensen of Stanhope with Second Degree Arson, a Class C Felony and Interference with Official Acts, a Class D Felony.  The sheriff’s department  received a 911 call of a house fire in rural Stanhope at 2158 360th Street. The Stanhope Fire Department arrived on the scene. The home was full engulfed. Hamilton County Sheriff Alex Pruismann said deputies observed multiple people on the property. Christensen was observed with a shotgun in his hand,actively drinking what appeared to be an alcoholic beverage. Christensen did not comply and stated to the deputie to “go home”. He also stated that no one else is in the house. It was known that he had multiple fireams on him or near him within close proximity. A short while later a Hamilton County Deputy was able to make contact with Christensen and communicate in close proximity with him. At no time did Christensen point a weapon at law enforcement, fire personnel or other individuals. He was then apprehended by law enforcement. Christensen is being held in the Hamilton County Jail. The Stratford Fire Department assisted the Stanhope Fire Departmen at the scene. Other agencies assisting included the Webster City Police Department, Iowa State Patrol, Iowa Division of Criminal Investigation,EJS Police,Iowa DNR and the Webster County Sheriff’s Department.
