Urmila Sahai, 96, the matriarch of the Sahai family of Webster City passed away peacefully on Saturday, January 25, 2025.
Urmila was born in Moradabad, India on October 4, 1928 to Ronak and Ramvati Goel. In 1947, she was united in marriage to Dr. Prem Sahai. While in India, she dedicated herself to teaching elementary school children. In 1967, she and their four children joined her husband in the United States, settling in Webster City where they raised their family and made their home.
A devoted wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother, Urmila was the pillar of her family, especially after the passing of her beloved husband, Prem Sahai. Her life was highlighted by her philanthropy work with her husband in supporting education across the state of Iowa and India. She and her husband were one of the founding members of the Hindu Temple and Cultural Center of Iowa. She promoted the values of hard work, education, love, and perseverance in her children and grandchildren, leaving behind a legacy of strength and service to others.
Urmila leaves behind her son, Dr. Subhash C. Sahai, and his spouse, Dr. Sushma Sahai of Webster City; daughter-in-law, Nutan Sahai of Boca Ratan, FL; daughters, Shashi Agarwal, and her spouse, Dr. Anil Agarwal of Chicago, IL; and Dr. Neena Gupta, and her spouse, Dr. Subhash Gupta of Fort Lauderdale, FL. She was a cherished grandmother of 12 Grandchildren and a proud great-grandmother to 29 great-grandchildren who loved her dearly.
Urmila was preceded in death by her husband, Prem Sahai; her son, Dr. Anil K. Sahai; her parents and two brothers and sister.
