Hamilton County sees a slight drop in its December unemployment.

The Iowa Workforce Development office reported Tuesday that Hamilton County’s unemployment rate for December was at 2.6 percent. This is down from the November unemployment rate at 2.8 percenter. The December unemployment rate for Hamilton County was 2.5 percent. There were 6,780 people employed in  Hamilton County  in December,2023 while 180 people were without work.The unemployment rate for surrounding counties in December included Boone County at 2.5 percent, Franklin County at 2.6 percent, Hardin County at 2.7 percent, Story County at 2.0 percent,Webster County at 2.9 percent and Wright County at 2.4 percent. Iowa’s unemployment rate for December went up to 3.2 percent which is up slightly from the November rate. During December there were 1,635,000 Iowans employed with  53,900 people without work.
