Webster City basketball swept in road NCC doubleheader with Humboldt

The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they made the trip north and west to take on their longtime rivals in the Humboldt Wildcats in North Central Conference action at Humboldt High School. Webster City’s girls entered at 2-12, while Webster City’s boys entered at 4-9.

Webster City’s girls would come out of the gate and play well on Friday, trailing just 15-12 after the first quarter. However, Humboldt’s defense proved to be troublesome for the Lynx, as the Wildcats grew their lead to 30-18 at halftime, pushed out to 44-28 by the end of the 3rd quarter. Humboldt would cruise from there for a 59-36 win.

Olivia Gallentine led Webster City with 16 points on the night, while Tristyn Wright finished with 6 points. Morgan Mann led Humboldt with 24 points on Friday,

The boys game followed as the Lynx boys looked to build off their win over HD-CAL, but the Humboldt boys came locked and loaded, putting up 21 points in the first, and holding Webster City to just 4 points in the 2nd quarter to take a 40-14 halftime lead. Webster City’s offense would roar to life in the 3rd quarter with 29 points in the frame, and the Lynx cut the lead to as little as 13 points early in the 4th quarter, before Humboldt regained control and finished off an 81-59 win.

Junior Gavin Griffith had a breakout night with a team-high 19 points, with 10 rebounds and 3 assists, while Matt Tesdahl had 11 points, 4 rebounds and 5 assists. Mason Van Pelt led Humboldt with a game-high 23 points.
