3 Cowboys Champs highlight NCC meet for KQRadio teams

The Webster City Lynx and Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys wrestling team returned to action on Saturday morning, as they made the trip to Kossuth County to compete in the annual North Central Conference Championships at Algona High School. The Lynx and Cowboys were joined by Algona, Clear Lake, Hampton-Dumont-CAL, Humboldt and Iowa Falls-Alden.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows would place 3rd in the meet with 181 points and came away with 3 conference champions on Saturday. The first was at 126 pounds, as Adrian Phetxoumphone topped defending-champ Isaac Wilson of Algona by a 4-0 decision. Colin Sesker then captured the 144-pound title with an 11-9 decision over Barrett Morgan of Algona, as JT Kelso capped the day for the Cowboys with a 7-2 decision for the 285-pound title over Algona’s Jack Limbaugh.

Charlie Campbell would come up short in his title match at 175, losing a 10-0 major decision to undefeated Christian Dunning of Clear Lake in the title match. Paxton Redenius would place 3rd by pinning Algona’s Thomas Zabka in the 3rd-place match at 113, while Angel Cortes placed 3rd at 120 with a pinfall win over Humboldt’s Henry Kramer, as Cortes wrestled in place of an ill Linden Phetxoumphone. Caleb Seaba would place 3rd at 157, winning a 7-3 decision over Humboldt’s Braden Downs, as Ryland Morgan placed 4th at 165. CGD would get 5th place finishes from Ryan Hartwig at 126 and Kolton Hefti at 138, with 6th place finishes from Cole Wibholm (106), Caden Hauenstein (150), Daven Duncalf (190) and Traesyn Cope (215).

Webster City would claim a pair of 3rd place finishes on Saturday, as Eli Estlund placed 3rd at 190 pounds, winning a 5-2 decision over Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Brody Robertson in the 3rd-place match. Cody Elliott would immediately follow up with a 3rd place finish at 215, winning an 11-5 decision over Hampton-Dumont-CAL’s Maddon Evans in his 3rd place match. Gavin Wynkoop would come up short in his 3rd place match, losing by a 19-3 tech fall to St. Edmond’s Matthew Crimmins, while Tristan Mason lost his 3rd place match to Iowa Falls-Alden’s Keaton Mulford by major decision. Webster City would get 6th place finishes from Carson Burtnett (126), Dawson Bertran (138), Ridge Berninghaus (144) and Luke Estlund (165). The Lynx would place 7th with 63 points.

Webster City wrestling returns to action on Thursday, when they travel to Huxley to take on Ballard in a non-conference dual at Ballard High beginning at 5:30 PM. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Eagle Grove to take on the Eagles in non-conference action at 6 PM.
