Webster City, Eagle Grove, South Hamilton wrestling compete in Perry Invitational

The Webster City Lynx, Eagle Grove Eagles and South Hamilton Hawks wrestling teams returned to action on Saturday, as they competed in the annual Perry Invitational at Perry High School. The Lynx, Eagles and Hawks were joined by the host Bluejays, as well as Carlisle, Carroll, Dowling Catholic, Greene County, Okoboji/HMS, PCM, Saydel, Sergeant Bluff-Luton, Spencer, West Delaware and West Marshall.

Webster City would have the top day of the area schools in Perry, as the Lynx finished 10th with 84 points. The top placer for the Lynx was Gavin Wynkoop, who placed 2nd at 132, falling by major decision in the final to Dowling’s Jayden Zachary. Wynkoop would win a 10-6 decision over West Delaware’s Kooper Waugh, before winning a 9-0 major over Spencer’s Dylan Baccam.

Cody Elliott would place 3rd at 215, winning his placement match by ultimate tiebreaker over Greene County’s Marcus Ball. Eli Estlund was 5th at 190, Carson Bertran and Tristan Mason would place 6th at 175 and 150, Ty Bingham place 7th at 106 and Cael Alexander was 8th at 285.

Eagle Grove place 11th with 65.5 points, as their top placers were Andrew Orozco, Hunter Waldo-Martinez and Jesus Baez at 113, 126 and 285. Orozco would lose his 3rd place match to West Marshall’s James Decker by 15-0 tech fall, Waldo-Martinez lost his 3rd place match by medical forfeit, while Baez lost a 7-0 decision to West Delaware’s Owen Pettlon. Dylan Terwilliger would place 6th at 120, Jayden Kreitlow would place 7th at 175, while Jackson Babcock placed 8th at 138.

South Hamilton would place 15th with 16 team points, as their top placers were Hagen Klein and Parker Stuck, who finished 6th at 113 lbs and 190 lbs.

West Delaware would win the team title with 225.5 points.
