The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the West Hancock Eagles in Top of Iowa West action at Eagle Grove Elementary School. Eagle Grove’s girls entered at 1-12, while the Eagle Grove boys entered at 5-8.
Eagle Grove’s girls looked to bounce back from back-to-back losses to start the week, but West Hancock had other ideas, leading 10-4 after the first quarter, and pushed the lead to 21-10 at halftime. Eagle Grove’s offense would come alive in the 2nd half, but West Hancock’s offense also stepped up to come away with a 55-38 win.
Taytum Edwards led Eagle Grove with 9 points, while Holly Anderson and Ellie Lenning each had 7 points. Meara Kudej led West Hancock with a game-high 22 points.
The Eagle Grove boys followed as they tried to bounce back from back-to-back losses to open the week, and jumped all over West Hancock early, leading 16-5 after the first and 31-12 at halftime. West Hancock’s offense came to life in the 3rd quarter, but Eagle Grove would fight off the Eagles run to come away with a 54-39 win.
Jaxon Morris led Eagle Grove with a double-double of 19 points and 11 rebounds, as Josh Miller had 12 points and Adrian Whipple had 11 points. Brady Bixel led West Hancock with 11 points.
Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they travel to Belmond to take on Belmond-Klemme in Top of Iowa West action at Belmond-Klemme High School at 6:15 PM.
