Ottie Maxey of the Ames Regional Economic Alliance met this week with the Stanhope City Council. Maxey explained to the council about the work the alliance does for each community in Hamilton County. This is a partnership between Hamilton County, the City of Webster City and the Ames Regional Economic Alliance. They understand the needs in each community are different. Maxey met with Stanhope Mayor Kelly Wirtz last week to discuss the needs in Stanhope for community betterment. Each community in Hamilton County is asked to invest $1000 to be a part of Hamilton County Growth Development (HCGD). This includes a seat on the HCGD Board of Directors. The community of Stanhope would reap many benefits from joining the HCGD Board. The Stanhope City Council voted to spend $1000 on joining the Hamilton County Growth Development Group. The council would like to see revitalization to Stanhope with the help of the development group.
The Stanhope City Council approved setting the dates of May 10th,2025 as Stanhope Garage Sale Day and May 17,2025 as the City Wide Clean Up Day. The council gave its support the offer by Envision and enter into purchasing the Stanhope Medical Arts Building and the Stanhope for $1.00 per deed, Stanhope Mayor Kelly Wirtz and the Stanhope Council hope to see the Medical Arts Building as a place of growth of small businesses in Stanhope. They also expressed how the Stanhope Depot is a historical point for Stanhope.
A request to help support Upper Des Moines Opportunity in an amount of $300 from the city of Stanhope was approved by the city council this week.
Stanhope Public Works director Tim Dally asked the council about investing in an inside locking mechanism for water meters. The cost for the meters is $20.00 each. Nothing was approved and water shut offs need to get found. The lift station is not working. The bid to put in a new alarm is $4300. The council directed Dally to get an alarm ordered for the lift station.
