The first meeting of the new year for the Jewell City Council was held this week. By a vote of 3 to 2, the council approved a resolution to give authorization from the city for the Anderson Lake Sportsmen, Incorporated club to apply for a tax exemption for select parcels around Anderson Lake. The three council members who voted in favor were Stacy Alsager,Scott Rohloff and Loyal Winborn. The council members who voted no were Aaron Boor and Steve Butler.
Jewell Fire Chief Duane Hendrickson presented the 2024 annual run review of the Fire and Rescue Department. There were 54 total fire calls and 124 total EMS calls. The response time the Jewell Fire and Rescue continues to amaze the council. One statistic shared by Chief Hendrickson was for the 51 medical calls:from the time the page goes off to the time EMS is on the scene is 8.46 minutes and the Iowa average is 15 to 20 minutes. The Jewell City Council thanked the Jewell Fire and Rescue Department for all their work.
The Jewell City Council appointed Duane Hendrickson to the Hamilton County 911 Board. Jewell Mayor Mickey Walker was appointed as the city’s representative with Aaron Boor as the alternate to the Hamilton County Solid Waste Commission. Duane Hendrickson was reappointed as Jewell Fire Chief for 2025. Justin Deppe was appointed as Jewell city attorney and Loyal Winborn as mayor protem, Jewell Mayor Mickey Walker and Steve Butler were appointed as EJS (Ellsworth,Jewell, Stanhope) Police board representatives. The Jewell City Council made a donation of $986. 95 to the Jewell Historical Museum.
