Roland-Story basketball splits road HOIAC doubleheader with Grand View Christian

The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip into the Des Moines metro to take on the Grand View Christian Thunder in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Grand View Christian School in Des Moines. Roland-Story’s girls entered at 10-2 and ranked #9 in Class 3A, while Roland-Story’s boys entered at 3-7.

Roland-Story’s girls would over come a slower start than normal to come away with a 69-24 win. The Norsemen would be led by senior Claire Truesdell, who finished with a game-high 17 points. Riley Johnson added 14 points, while Emma Truesdell and Brinley Carlson each had 11 points.

The boys game followed as Roland-Story faced a daunting task at the hands of 4th-ranked team in 2A, as the Norsemen trailed 19-11 after the first, as the lead grew to 40-21 at halftime. However, Roland-Story would hang around in the 3rd quarter, before making a comeback bid in the 4th that would ultimately fall short in a 72-59 loss.

Cody Long would lead Roland-Story with 18 points, 6 rebounds and 4 assists, while Luke Thoreson added 18 points of his own.

Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Tuesday night, when they host Nevada in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School, starting at 6 PM.
