Eagle Grove basketball swept in road TOIW doubleheader at Forest City

The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip into Winnebago County to take on the Forest City Indians in Top of Iowa West action at Forest City High School. Eagle Grove’s girls entered at 1-11, while Eagle Grove’s boys entered at 5-7.

Eagle Grove’s girls faced a tall task in the 4th-ranked Indians, as Forest City raced out to a 29-2 lead after the first quarter. The Eagles offense did come to life in the 2nd quarter behind the play of freshman Taytum Edwards, but Forest City kept their pace in the 2nd half for a 64-28 win.

The KQWC Player of the Game was Taytum Edwards, who finished with a game-high 20 points and 6 three-pointers. Collette Loges led Forest City with 17 points.

The boys game followed with the Eagles looking to avenge a 2-point loss to Forest City in December, but the Indians came out playing well, leading 15-5 after the first quarter, as a cold Eagles offense and pressuring Indian defense built the lead to 31-15 at halftime. The lead continued to grow in the 2nd half as Forest City would come away with a 59-30 win.

Eagle Grove’s KQWC Player of the Game was senior Josh Miller, who finished with a game-high 15 points. Holden Reynolds led Forest City with 14 points.

Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Friday, when they host West Hancock in Top of Iowa West action at Eagle Grove Elementary at 6:15 PM.
