The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Nevada Cubs in non-conference action at Webster City High School. The Webster City girls entered at 0-10, while the Webster City boys entered at 3-6.
Webster City’s girls would get off to a great start in their search for their first win, leading 10-3 after the first quarter, but Nevada battled back in the 2nd quarter as the Lynx led 22-21 at halftime. The game remained neck-and-neck in the 2nd half, as Webster City would make just a couple more plays to come away with their first win of the season by a score of 49-47.
Olivia Gallentine led the Lynx with 14 points, while Aliva Burns had 11 points.
The boys game followed as the Lynx looked to get back on the winning track, but Nevada jumped out to a 16-11 lead, which grew to 35-21 at halftime. However, the Lynx began to surge offensively and by late in the 4th quarter, whittled the lead down to 3. However, the final shot for the Lynx came up short as Nevada held on for a 57-54 win.
Four Lynx scored in double figures as Jaxon Griffith led Webster City with 14, while Matt Tesdahl and Carter Mickelson each had 12.
Webster City basketball returns to action on Tuesday night, when they travel to Gowrie to take on Southeast Valley in non-conference action at 6 PM on AM 1570 KZWC or online at kqradio.com.
