The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Gaels of Fort Dodge, St. Edmond at Eagle Grove Elementary School. Eagle Grove’s girls entered with a record of 1-10, while the Eagle Grove boys entered at 5-6.
Zach Whipple’s Eagles would battle in the opening quarter, trailing just 11-10 after the first, but St. Edmond’s defense ramped things up in the 2nd quarter to lead 23-12 at halftime. The Eagles would keep pace with the Gaels in the 2nd half, but the 2nd quarter wound up being the difference in 48-37 win for St. Edmond.
Taytum Edwards led Eagle Grove with 14 points, while Kendra Schild was a point shy of a double-double with 9 points and a career-high 19 rebounds.
The boys game followed with the Eagles facing off with a top-10 1A squad in the Gaels, as St. Edmond’s offense came out of the gate scorching, putting up 47 points in the first half to lead 47-26 at halftime. The Eagles would even things out in the 2nd half, but were unable to generate a comeback in a 70-51 loss.
