The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they made the drive to Des Moines to take on the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Saydel High School. Roland-Story’s girls entered at 8-2 and ranked #9 in Class 3A, while Roland-Story’s boys entered at 3-6.
The Norsemen girls jumped all over Saydel early with a big first quarter, leading 25-4 after the opening frame before leading 41-18 at halftime. Roland-Story kept their foot on the gas in the 2nd half to come away with a 69-31 win.
Roland-Story’s KQWC Player of the Game was senior Kam Lande, who finished with a game-high 15 points with 9 rebounds, 2 blocks and 2 steals. Alyssa Jones finished with 11 points, as Riley Johnson had 7 points, 6 rebounds and 5 assists. Lauren Frantz led Saydel with 12 points.
Roland-Story’s boys followed trying to build off their Tuesday night win over PCM, but Saydel got off to a hot start, leading 19-11 after one and 35-21 at halftime. The Eagles lead was 13 after the third, but the Norsemen continued to hang around well into the 4th, before Saydel closed it out late for a 60-45 win.
The KQWC Player of the Game was senior guard Jack Birkland, who finished with 12 points and 4 three-pointers in the 2nd half. Luke Thoreson had a team-high 16 points with 5 rebounds. Gage Moreno led Saydel with 17 points.
Roland-Story’s girls return to action on Monday when they host Clear Lake in non-conference action at 7 PM. Roland-Story’s boys return to action on Tuesday night, when they travel to Des Moines to take on Grand View Christian in Heart of Iowa Conference action at 7:30 PM.
