
The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they made the long trip north into Winnebago County to take on the Bison of North Iowa at North Iowa High School in Buffalo Center. Eagle Grove’s girls entered at 1-9, while Eagle Grove’s boys entered at 4-6.
The first quarter was a tight one as North Iowa lead 10-8, before opening up a 31-19 lead at halftime. The 2nd half saw the Bison turn up the defensive intensity, holding Eagle Grove to just 15 second half points in a 70-34 win.
Taytum Edwards led Eagle Grove with 13 points, while Kendra Schild had 7 points and 10 rebounds. Ashlyn Belcher led North Iowa with 15 points.
Eagle Grove’s boys looked to bounce back after back-to-back losses to North Union and Bishop Garrigan and got off to another good start, leading 17-10 after the first. North Iowa would close the gap to 33-30 at halftime, as the Bison took a 52-51 lead after three. Both sides battled in the 4th, before the game would go to overtime tied at 65-65. Eagle Grove’s defense would reign supreme in OT and come away with a 71-67 win.
Jaxon Morris had a game-high 28 points with 7 rebounds, while Josh Miller had 16 points and Abraham Lin had 12 points, 7 rebounds and 6 assists. Max Wilkerson led North Iowa with 18 points and 6 rebounds.
Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Monday night, as they host St. Edmond in non-conference action at Eagle Grove Elementary School at 6:15 PM.
