Eagle Grove basketball swept in TOIW road doubleheader at Bishop Garrigan

The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip into Kossuth County to take on the Golden Bears of Bishop Garrigan in Top of Iowa West action at Bishop Garrigan High School in Algona. Eagle Grove’s girls entered at 1-8, while Eagle Grove’s boys entered at 4-5.

Eagle Grove’s girls faced a stiff test in the 4th-ranked Golden Bears in Class 1A, as Garrigan jumped out to an 18-4 lead after the first quarter, which grew to 41-13 by halftime. The Golden Bears kept their foot on the gas in the 2nd half for a 73-17 win. Stats were not available on Bound as of Friday morning.

The Eagle Grove boys followed as they tried to bounce back from their heartbreaking loss to North Union on Tuesday, and got off to a great start, leading 14-9 after one and up 30-23 at halftime. However, the 8th-ranked Golden Bears roared to life in the 2nd half, putting up 49 points to comeback for a 72-62 win.

Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Friday night, when they travel to Buffalo Center to take on North Iowa in Top of Iowa West action at 6:15 PM.
