The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys wrestling team returned to action on Thursday night, as they made the trip west on Highway 3 to take on the Humboldt Wildcats and Clear Lake Lions in a North Central Conference tri-dual at Humboldt High School.
Fourth-ranked CGD opened the night with a 48-26 win over Clear Lake, winning 3 of 8 bouts with pinfall wins from Paxton Redenius (113), Adrian Phextoumphone (126) and Charlie Campbell (190). The Cowboys picked up forfeit wins from Linden Phetxoumphone (120), Ryan Hartwig (132), Jamie Steffenson (138), Colin Sesker (144) and Mason Warnke (150).
The Cowboys followed up with a much-anticipated showdown with #7 Humboldt, which came down to the wire as the Wildcats came up with a 40-35 win. CGD picked up pinfall wins from Linden Phetxoumphone (120), Ryland Morgan (165), Charlie Campbell (215) and JT Kelson (285), while Adrian Phetxoumphone (126) won by major decision and Caleb Seaba (157) won by decision. Humboldt’s Sam Knight would bin Paxton Redenius in the final bout at 113 to secure the win for the Wildcats.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows wrestling returns to action on Saturday, when they host the Glenn Brand Duals at CGD High School in Clarion, beginning at 10 AM.
