The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the PCM Mustangs in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School in Story City. The Roland-Story girls entered at 8-2 and ranked #5 in Class 3A, while the Roland-Story boys entered at 2-6.
Tuesday’s girls game would be a top-10 battle, as Roland-Story led 13-9 after the first quarter, and continued the smothering defense in the 2nd, leading 30-18 going into the halftime break. The Norsemen offense continued to excel in the 2nd half, and kept PCM at arms length the rest of the way in a 54-42 win.
Alyssa Jones finished with 19 points on 7/9 shooting, while Claire Truesdell finished with 10 points. Libby Winters led PCM with a game-high 21 points.
Roland-Story’s boys followed as they tried to right the ship after back-to-back losses to West Marshall and Iowa Falls-Alden, but fell behind early by a score of 12-9. However, the Norsemen turned up the intensity in the 2nd quarter, putting up 24 points and leading 33-20 at halftime. PCM would bounce back in the 2nd half, but not enough to make up the difference as the Norsemen pulled out a 55-44 win.
Sophomore Luke Thoreson finished with 19 points and 9 rebounds, while Eli Van Hove finished with 10 points, 9 rebounds and 2 blocks.
Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Des Moines to take on Saydel in Heart of Iowa Conference action at 6 PM.
