Eagle Grove basketball swept in home TOIW doubleheader with North Union

The Eagle Grove Eagles basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the North Union Warriors in Top of Iowa West action at Eagle Grove Elementary School. Eagle Grove’s girls entered at 1-7, while the boys entered at 4-4.

Eagle Grove’s girls would come out of the gates and scrap early on, trailing just 14-11 after the first quarter. However, North Union turned up the intensity on the defensive end with their 2-2-1 press and forced a number of turnovers to push the lead out to 41-21 at halftime. The Warriors would keep their foot on the gas in the 2nd half for a 64-28 win.

The KQWC Player of the Game for Eagle Grove was freshman Tatum Edwards, who finished with a team-high 8 points. Ainsley Ulrich finished with a game-high 28 points, 17 of those coming in the 2nd quarter.

The Eagle boys followed and got off to a great start, leading the Warriors 16-5 after the first quarter, and led 30-22 at halftime. However, North Union would storm back in the 2nd half behind the hot shooting of Greyson Colegrove and Drew Henderson to rally for a 51-50 come-from-behind victory.

The KQWC Player of the Game for Eagle Grove was senior Abraham Lin, who tied a game-high 17 points for the Eagles in the loss. Greyson Colegrove finished with 17 points for North Union, while Drew Henderson added 13.

Eagle Grove basketball returns to action on Thursday night, when they travel to Algona to take on Bishop Garrigan in a makeup doubleheader in Top of Iowa West action at 6:15 PM.
