The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Monday night, as they hosted the Perry Bluejays in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School in Jewell. South Hamilton’s girls entered at 2-7, while South Hamilton’s boys entered at 0-9.
South Hamilton’s girls jumped out to a solid start on Monday, leading 10-4 after the 1st quarter, a lead that grew to 26-12 by halftime. Perry’s offense would begin to come alive in the 2nd half, cutting the deficit to 8 by the end of the 3rd, but the Hawks were able to hold serve in the 4th for a 39-29 win.
Kaylen Trask would have a career night with 20 points and 9 rebounds, while Emma Lammers added 10 points off the bench. Sophomore Lily Myers led Perry with 10 points, 11 rebounds and 5 assists.
The boys game followed as Perry ripped off a monstrous 33-point first quarter, as South Hamilton would rally to cut the deficit to 45-24 at halftime. However, the Perry offense would be too much in the 2nd half as the Bluejays came away with an 82-33 win.
Grant Larson led South Hamilton with 11 points and 5 assists, while Jose Babcock had 9 points and 9 rebounds. Gustavo Drahos finished with a game-high 29 points for Perry, while Geren Kenney had a triple-double of 14 points, 11 rebounds and 12 assists.
South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Jefferson to take on Greene County in Heart of Iowa Conference action beginning at 6 PM.
