Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball falls just short at Garner-Hayfield-Ventura, 45-42

The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball team made the drive north on Highway 69 on Monday night, as they took on the Cardinals of Garner-Hayfield-Ventura in non-conference action at GHV High School in Garner. The Cowboys entered Monday night with a record of 1-5.

Monday’s game would be a barn-burner the whole way through, with GHV leading 12-11 after one, but CGD holding a 26-23 halftime lead. GHV would claw back to bring the margin to 1 headed into the 4th, as the Cardinals would get the key baskets down the stretch to come away with a 45-42 win.

Chaz Lane led CGD with 14 points and 7 rebounds, while Johnny Lomeli added 13 points. Nicholas Zrostlik led GHV with 16 points on the night.

Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Tuesday night, when they travel to Algona to take on the Bulldogs in North Central Conference action, beginning at 7:45 PM.
