The Roland-Story Norsemen basketball teams returned to action on Friday evening, as they welcomed in the Perry Bluejays in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Roland-Story High School in Story City. Roland-Story’s girls entered at 3-1 and ranked #5 in Class 3A, while Roland-Story’s boys entered at 0-3.
Roland-Story’s girls would not mess around in the the opening frame on Friday, putting up 24 points and leading 24-5 after the first quarter, a lead that ballooned to 41-16 at halftime. The Norsemen kept their foot on the gas in the 2nd half to come away with a 74-24 win.
Claire Truesdell has a game-high 22 points on Friday, while Brinley Carlson added 15 points off the bench. Taryn Nehring led the Jayettes with 9 points.
The Norsemen boys followed, still in search of their first win, facing off with a much-improved Perry team. The Bluejays would lead 15-8 after the first quarter, but the Norsemen kept close and trailed 32-26 at halftime. Perry’s offense would then explode in the 3rd quarter for 23 points, more than enough to carry the Bluejays to a 53-49 win.
Luke Thoreson led the Norsemen with 19 points and 12 rebounds, while Jack Birkland had 9 points and 4 assists. Owen Myers had a career-night for Perry with 31 points, while Geren Kenney had 13 points and 15 rebounds.
Roland-Story basketball returns to action on Tuesday night, when they make the short trip to Jewell to take on rivals South Hamilton in Heart of Iowa Conference action at 6 PM.
