Webster City basketball splits doubleheader with South Central Calhoun

The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they hosted the Titans of South Central Calhoun in non-conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City’s girls entered at 0-4, while the boys entered at 0-1.

Marty McKinney’s girls squad got off to a fast start, leading the Titans 17-13 at the end of the 1st quarter. However, SCC would turn up the defensive intensity in the 2nd quarter, holding the Lynx to just 2 points to take a 22-19 halftime lead. The Titans offense continued to play more efficiently in the 2nd half, en route to a 47-36 win.

Webster City stats were not available on Bound as of Wednesday, as Blair Schleisman led South Central Calhoun with 15 points, 5 rebounds and 3 assists.

The boys game followed as the Lynx looked to bounce back from their season-opening loss to Aplington-Parkersburg and would do just that as the Lynx lead 15-12 after the first, before expanding that lead to 28-22 at halftime. Webster City would keep the Titans at arms length in the 3rd quarter, before SCC mounted a rally in the 4th and trailed just 47-46 with under a minute left. Webster City would knock down free throws in the clutch to come away with a 49-46 win.

Cole Miller finished with a game-high 18 points for the Lynx, while Carter Mickelson added 14 and Connor Peck had 10 points, 8 rebounds and 5 assists. Andrew Anderson finished with a team-high 13 points for SCC.

Webster City basketball returns to action on Thursday as the boys travel to Alleman to take on North Polk, while the girls return to action on Friday when they travel to Hampton-Dumont-CAL.
