South Hamilton basketball splits road doubleheader at Saydel

The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Tuesday night, as they made the trip south into the Des Moines Metro to take on the Saydel Eagles in Heart of Iowa Conference action at Saydel High School. South Hamilton’s girls entered at 0-3, as the Hawk boys also entered at 0-3.

South Hamilton’s girls got off to a slow start on Tuesday, trailing 13-6 after the first quarter, but the Hawks woke up in the 2nd quarter to bring the margin within 2 at halftime at 22-20. South Hamilton continued to narrow the gap in the 2nd half until taking the lead in the 4th quarter and winning by a score of 42-40. Claire Hewitt led the Hawks with 16 points on the night.

The boys game followed as Saydel sprinted out to big lead after the first quarter at 20-7, but the Hawks managed to keep the lead from growing, trailing 30-17 at halftime. However, Saydel would put together a monster 3rd quarter of 28 points to cruise to a 66-26 win. Ben Swenson led the Hawks with 10 points, while Sam Koehnk had 8 points.

South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Friday night, when they host the Thunder of Grand View Christian in Heart of Iowa Conference action at South Hamilton High School, beginning at 6 PM.
