Webster City basketball swept in home doubleheader with Aplington-Parkersburg

The Webster City Lynx basketball teams returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Falcons of Aplington-Parkersburg in non-conference action at Webster City High School. Webster City’s girls entered at 0-4, while the boys were in their season-opener.

A-P’s girls jumped out of the gate early with hot offense, putting up 23 points in the first quarter to lead 23-13. The Falcons kept up the pressure on offense with 15 more in the 2nd quarter to hold a 38-20 halftime lead. The Lynx offense picked up in the 2nd half, but A-P kept their foot on the gas for a 67-42 win.

Quinnlyn Schultz finished with 19 points for the Falcons, while Webster City stats were not available as of Monday morning.

The boys game followed as Webster City opened their season with the Falcons, as the Lynx trailed just 14-9 after the 1st quarter. However, the Falcons offense came to life in the 2nd with 20 points to take a 34-15 halftime lead. Webster City would be right with the Falcons in the 2nd half, but the lopsided 2nd frame would be the Lynx undoing in a 59-37 loss.

Cole Miller led the Lynx with 11 points, while A-P’s Benny Waller had a game-high 14 points. Carter Mickelson also finished with 8 points.

Webster City basketball returns to action on Tuesday, when they host South Central Calhoun in a girls/boys doubleheader beginning at 6:15 PM at Webster City High School.
