The South Hamilton Hawks wrestling team opened their 2024-25 season on Saturday morning, as they made the trip west into Calhoun County to compete in the Doug Wood Invitational at Manson-Northwest Webster High School in Manson. The Hawks were joined by the host Cougars, as well as Alta-Aurelia, East Sac County, MMCRU, Ogden, Ridge View, South Central Calhoun, St. Edmond, West Bend-Mallard and Woodbury Central.
South Hamilton would come away with a meet champion on Saturday, as Braden Young won the 165 lbs title. Young won an 18-3 tech fall over Woodbury Central’s Abe McGill in the quarterfinal, before pinning Ogden’s Tristan Mosley in the semifinals and pinning South Central Calhoun’s Hayden Stickrod in the finals.
The Hawks would get a pair of 4th place finishers in Holden Moore and Brody Harris, as Moore placed 4th at 132 by falling to Alta-Aurelia’s Cline Sievers in the 3rd place match by pin, while Harris placed 4th at 285 by losing in a pin to South Central Calhoun’s Trendon Daniel in the 3rd place match.
Gaige Willis placed 5th at 215 by pinning Ridge View’s Kolton Witzke in the 5th place match, while Jacob Lutjen placed 6th at 120 to round out the Hawk place winners.
South Hamilton wrestling returns to action on Thursday, when they host Nevada for a Heart of Iowa Conference dual at 5:30 PM at South Hamilton High School in Jewell.
