The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows boys basketball team returned to action on Friday night, as they hosted the Gaels of Fort Dodge, St. Edmond in North Central Conference action at CGD High School in Clarion. The Cowboys entered at 0-1, while St. Edmond entered at 1-0.
St. Edmond jumped on the Cowboys right off the rip with 21 points in the 1st quarter, before adding 24 points in the 2nd quarter for a 45-21 lead. The Cowboys offense would wake up in the 3rd quarter, but the Gaels defense clamped down in the 4th quarter for a 72-39 win.
Hunter Horn had a game-high 25 points for the Gaels, while JD Morrical led the Cowboys with 12 points, while Chaz Lane and Huxley Lingenfelter each had 10 points.
CGD would turn around and host West Hancock on Saturday afternoon, as the Cowboys held a 14-10 lead after the first quarter, but a dominant 2nd quarter saw the Cowboys outscore the Eagles by a 21-3 margin and lead 35-13 at halftime. CGD never looked back from there en route to a 59-44 win.
Chaz Lane would set a new career-high with 28 points and 9 rebounds, while JD Morrical was a rebound shy of a triple-double with 13 points, 9 rebounds and 10 assists. Huxley Lingenfelter had a double-double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, as West Hancock leading-scorer Ray Gretillat was a rebound short of a double-double with 10 points and 9 rebounds.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows basketball returns to action on Friday, when they travel to Humboldt to take on the Wildcats in North Central Conference action at Humboldt High School at 7:30 PM.
