The South Hamilton Hawks basketball teams returned to action on Thursday night, as they welcomed in the Cadets of Iowa Falls-Alden to South Hamilton High School in Jewell for non-conference action.
Iowa Falls-Alden would jump on the Hawks early behind the stellar play of junior Joslin Johnson, as the Cadets led 12-5 after 1, ballooned to 29-12 at halftime. The Cadets kept their foot on the gas in the 2nd half, leading 44-18 after the 3rd quarter before cruising to a 56-29 win.
Joslin Johnson had a game-high 25 points and 7 rebounds, while Cidni Phipps had 7 assists for IF-A. Emma Lammers led the Hawks with 6 points, while Claire Hewitt had 4 points and 10 rebounds.
The boys game followed and Iowa Falls-Alden came out of the gates scorching, putting up 24 points in the opening quarter and leading 24-5. South Hamilton’s offense picked up in the 2nd quarter with 15 points, but still trailed in a big 44-20 hole at the halftime break. The Hawks would even things out in the 2nd half, outscoring the Cadets in the 3rd and 4th quarters, but it was not enough as Iowa Falls-Alden cruised to a 67-48 win.
Kale Kalous had the top scoring night for IF-A with 21 points, while Karsen Kalous finished with 17 points, 7 rebounds and 8 steals. Ben Swenson led South Hamilton with 12 points, while Lyndon Johnson had 10 points and 8 rebounds.
South Hamilton basketball returns to action on Friday night, when they host Nevada in Heart of Iowa Conference action at 6 PM at South Hamilton High School.
