The Clarion-Goldfield-Dows Cowboys football team returns to action on Friday night, as they wrap-up their 2024 campaign with a short road trip to face a conference foe in the Iowa Falls-Alden Cadets in Week 9 action at Cadet Field in Iowa Falls. Clarion-Goldfield-Dows enters Friday at 1-7, while Iowa Falls-Alden enters at 2-6. Friday’s matchup marks the first meeting between the two schools since Iowa Falls-Alden last beat CGD 35-20 in 2015, as the Cadets lead the all-time series 46-36 dating back 1904.
Iowa Falls-Alden enters Friday with a 2-6 mark, both wins coming in district play over Union Community and Vinton-Shellsburg, losing the tiebreaker for the final playoff spot to Union Community. The Cadets offense is led by sophomore quarterback Cade Olberding, who’s thrown for 661 yards and 4 touchdowns, while rushing for another 475 yards and 4 scores. Olberding’s favorite target has been senior Carter Weaver, who’s caught 22 passes for 275 yards and a touchdown, while sophomore Karsen Kalous has caught 19 passes for 201 yards and 2 scores. Eagle Grove-transfer Levi Langfitt has caught 21 passes for 196 yards and a score on the year as well. IF-A’s rushing attack has been a struggle this season, with Andrew Bartlett as the top rusher outside of Cade Olberding, rushing for 151 yards and just 764 rushing yards as a team for the Cadets.
Defensively, it’s been a monster season for senior defensive lineman Trevor Bailey, who’s amassed 66 tackles, 16.5 tackles for loss and 3 sacks. The linebacking core is a veteran one with Carter DeBates, Jack Duit, Keaton Mulford and Andrew Bartlett, as DeBates leads the unit in tackles with 47.5 and 2.5 tackles for loss, while Keaton Mulford has 34.5 tackles, 2 sacks and 3 tackles for loss. Andrew Bartlett has added 40 stops and 4 tackles for loss, while Jack Duit has 35 tackles. Up front, Reece Rankin helps support Trevor Bailey up front, with just 11.5 tackles, but with 5 TFL and a sack, while Brooks Hickman has 26 stops. Karsen Kalous leads the defensive back unit with 2 interceptions, while Drake Sanders is the groups leading tackle with 35.5 tackles.
Clarion-Goldfield-Dows will try to end a disappointing season on a high-note on Friday night, as the Cowboys rushing attack has trended in a positive direction the last couple of weeks, despite the absence of Charlie Campbell.
Kickoff is slated for 7 PM on Friday Night from Cadet Field.
