The Roland-Story Norsemen and South Hamilton Hawks cross country teams returned to action on Monday night, as they made the trip to eastern Story County as they competed in the annual Heart of Iowa Conference meet at Hickory Grove Park in Colo. The Norsemen and Hawks were joined by Grand View Christian, Greene County, Nevada, PCM, Perry, Saydel and West Marshall.
The highlight of the meet for the area squads was Roland-Story’s Corben Lucchesi capturing the individual conference title, winning the varsity boys race in a time of 17:08.6. The Norsemen placed 3rd with 86 points, as Evan Voga was 11th in 18:04.6, Henry Dahlsten was 19th in 18:56.1, Owen Johnson was 21st in 18:57.7, while Luccas Hart rounded out scoring in 36th in 19:30.2.
South Hamilton’s boys placed 8th with 213 points. Sophomore Hayden Hill had the top Hawk time, placing 20th in 18:56.5. Laken Zanker placed 38th in 19:44.4, Carson Gibbs was 56th in 20:39.2, Thomas Wirth was 66th in 21:49.4, while Emmett Beach rounded out scoring in 77th in a time of 22:47.8.
In the girls race, Roland-Story narrowly missed on a team title, scoring 60 points and PCM won with 56 points. Senior Claire Truesdell had the top finish for the Norsemen, placing 6th in a time of 20:42.8. Sophie Bates also finished in the top 10, placing 8th in 21:22.5, Kara Patterson was 11th in 21:26, Gracey Haberl was 20th in 22:17.8, while Andrea Ziegler rounded out scoring in 24th in 22:25.9.
South Hamilton’s girls placed 6th with 146 points, as Cici Herrick took home the top Hawk time by placing 18th in 22:13.4. Olivia Beaune was 28th in 23:00, Brooklyn Doolittle was 33rd in 23:19.1, Bianca Seaton was 45th in 24:33.7, while Isabel Swenson rounded out scoring in 54th with a time of 25:54.4.
South Hamilton and Roland-Story cross country return to action next Thursday for their district cross country meets, which sites will be announced on Tuesday afternoon.
